  1. Dear RRNA Board Members,

I am a local artist/musician/teacher who grew up in the River Road neighborhood. I have very fond memories of it and like to drive or walk through once in awhile. Last time I did, an idea struck me: why not do a series of paintings of or inspired by this beautiful part of our city? I plan to be in the neighborhood taking photos shortly after the next good rain, since it will cause everything to burst with color, and the river will be full and flowing (after the brown clears up). I will then do a series of paintings based on these photos. Since I am a teacher, I have a lot of time to paint during the summer, and I will probably complete the series by early fall, which is a good time to show art. I would love to have the show in the actual neighborhood, so I was wondering if there is any venue that is ever used for public or semi-public events. I would love to have the RRNA’s support and involvement in whatever capacity they see fit, and it could be some positive publicity for the RRNA if we alert local media, etc. You can see my artwork on facebook, and I could also email images if necessary. probably the closest image to what I would do for this series is a painting called “Land of the Immortals” you can see in my facebook photos. It is a very different type of landscape from what you find in RRN, but that is the style/technique I would use as opposed to some of the other examples you will see in my photos. I plan to do this series/show either way, but I just wanted to inform you of my plans and see if the RRNA has any interest in supporting this endeavor.

    Thanks for your consideration,
    Christian Withers

  2. Olive Roen says:

Related to the fight to stop the diversion of flood waters along Hildebrand and into the S.A. river near the headwaters, is the discharge place before the river goes through the zoo? If so, the flood water and all its contents will damage the habitat for the birds, fish, and animals. Many people from all over the area can relate to this, and it could add to the argument against the current plan.

    Hope it helps.
